ahh, altough i agree with earlier threads about how the btcc is strong even without the manufacteres because of our great independants, does anyone else agree that maybe 2 or 3 manufacteres really bring the glamour back to the BTCC, i really enjoyed the battles between SEAT and Vauxhall, and its sad that Vauxhall are pulling out at the end of the year.
Wouldnt it be great to see vauxhall stay and SEAT return, along with maybe BMW and Honda, and Ford too :)
would be GREAT!
i would like to hear your thoughts, and please dont be too harsh of my thoughts.

Agree with you totally, I would love to see some manufacturers back in the sport. We haven't suffered without them but the classic battles coming back would be good. In this climate though I can't see it happening any time soon.

To be honest, I don't mind either way, since quite a few indy teams are running two cars it's not that noticeable that there is only one manufacturer at the moment.

I don't think we do need the manufacturers back. The racing has been as good as ever this year with only Vauxhall as a manufacturer-backed team.
Next year with no manufacturers will I reckon be just as good if not better. Without the works teams there are that many more points places available to the independents.

There are also fewer cars being constructed to be sold on to the independent teams, not all of who can afford to develop their own cars, less talent being brought in from other countries or series and an overall reduction in promotion and 'flair' in the series.
I agree with some of what you've said though, there's some top racing this year.

I reckon thats why these new NGTC regs are being introduced - its cheaper, and it'll make it easier for small teams to enter...
and we could potentially see something like a Honda Accord being built, or a Skoda Octavia... or dare I say it... a LADA Priora!!!

manufacturer involvement in many forms of motorsport seem to be a thing of the past, even bmw are subject of quiting F1 rumours now. I can see manufacture based series doing ok as they make their own rules and designs but open formulas where others can at a stroke cost millions with a change of regs

That rumor has now been confirmed. I am wondering if they might now consider a works BTCC assault would be a lot cheaper.

Can't see that happening with the rule changes coming into effect in 2011, so 1 year with a RWD works team would be a bit pointless, although its not totally out of the question since Alan Gow said that if there was enough rear wheel drive interest he'd consider it.

As long as there are plenty of cars and good racing don't mind either way

Like many I think the racing this year is fantastic and it would appear that even without any manufacturers the series would be strong. That said, I think a few manufacturers with all the hospitality, marketing and drama that goes with their involvement cannot be a bad thing, in fact yes it has to be better to have them than not.
