I skived off work today to watch the first live friday qualifying since Oz, and to be honest what a load of rubbish!

dumbed down for 'new viewers' who they assumed hadnt watched any F1 since last season,

no on-boards til the end - sorry but the weather wasnt that bad

didnt manage to come back from a break without missing the first 20secs of the next drivers lap

horse racing with Firman - why??? and it wasnt even with beverly turner so there was no totty to stare at while I was bored with the pointlessness of the story!

Hope tomorrows better but its getting recorded as I think I'll go to work instead - esp if Arnie is going to take up half the show!

Will be interested to see who gets interviewed on the grid walk - any of them likely to be F1 people?!

To be fair John, there is allot of coverage on news programs about the BGP. I would assume that this would make plenty of new viewers tune it, so this is a perfect time to promote F1 and gain a few more viewers.

I didn't even bother watching it. "First qualifying" - I don't know why they call it that, as it counts towards absoutely nothing - it should be called "pre-qualifying." I have no interest in it, it has no bearing on the grid when you're watching it (the running order in qualifying only has a effect when you see the weather the next day), you might as well just watch live practise.

As for the extra "lifestyle" bits they do - sometimes I think they're interesting, and they dilute the F1 content a bit for new fans, who don't want analysis about who's going to win the race for a whole hour before it happens. And Martin's grid walk, I think, is great. You get to see celebrities trying to look cool by being at an F1 race, and falling flat on their **** by proving that they know nothing at all about it. It's often amusing, and only lasts for 5 minutes anyway.

If you really just want a stream of in-depth analysis and opinions before the race, just go on the Internet for an hour beforehand, there's plenty of sites out there with tons of content to read through.

I went to silverstone yesterday (only cos it was free on the season ticket) and was very suprised to actually have a good day. I was expecting to be a bit bored and have trouble with traffic (there was a bit but mostly caused by lorries not following the diversion around the area) and crowds and the normal business of not being able to go anywhere without paying for upgrades etc but all the grandstands were open for free, it wasn't too crowded and the facilities are much better than they used to be (lots of posh new toilets so you don't have to wait for ages). The cost of food etc was a rip off (I took my own) and a programme would have set you back £10 but it was a brilliant sight to see the F1 cars blasting round the circuit. Thumbs up for a good day out.

Usually love the grid walk and thought it the highlight of the weekend at times - but seems to be more and more interviewing celebs who have no bearing on the sport - eg footballers who cant speak english, or ozzy who cant speak english either! ;)

Thought the race was better - but one thing that annoys me - we see angles form onboard cars, but when something actually happens there's no replay from those cameras:

eg:

DCs cockpit surround falling off would have been interesting to see from the angle looking back through the steering wheel,

JV cutting across Jenson from JBs onboard,

Schumacher and the renault having a scrap from MSs wing mirror cam etc.
