After the request that ferrari put in place for schumacher to test the 2009 spec ferrari to get him familiar with the 2009 car was rejected from rivals due to the rules stating no mid season testing is allowed on current car.
Red bull and Williams both blocked them from doing so because Jaime wasn't allowed to test before the hungarian grand prix, but claims have been that the request wasnt put forward. Mercedes had no problem with schumacher test the car to get him familiar.
WTCC and BTCC both have mid season testing, which has been happening this week with some positives for the lada team.
Does anyone think mid season testing should be allowed?

In a series as technical as F1 it seems crazy not to let the teams test new developments. And the testing ban also means that they can't try out potential new drivers.

The way I see it is, if Alguersuari who has not driven an F1 car before not be allowed to test, then Why should a 7 time world champion be allowed?

Exactamondo!!
Just because he is a 7 Time Champion, doesnt mean he should be the Exception to any Rules..

Agreed!
I have a feeling that Schumi will be right up at the sharp end: he is after all a class act - and I say that as one who was never his greatest fan...

In the long run, I think the Driver is only as good as the Car he is Driving, and i feel Scheuy is no Exception to this.. (Look at the '05 season).
the Ferrari is showing Improvement, But im not sure it's up there with the Red Bulls just yet.

Right - my take on it.
For a new driver - take Jamie Alguersaeri into F1, then, to me, 1 days testing at a track which DOES not host F1 should be allowed, same with BTCC and Herbert.
In LADA's case, yes - because they are testing a new car, and had limited running with it before Porto.
For a returning driver - Schumi - simple case of no.

For me it wasnt asked if Jaime could test. They dont ask they dont get. Ferrari asked and now Toro Rosso(who should be careful in saying no to Ferrari as thats who gives them engines) who didnt are saying no cause we couldnt let Jaime test.
Let him test is my stance.

Well if they did not, its probley cause they no the RULES, Simple IN-SEASON TESTING IS BANNED. but it clearley states on the Autosport website that Toro rosso were refused track time to test JA before the Hungarian GP.

So your saying testing for safety shouldnt be allowed. Ok I wont like it but I will agree. And more fatalities/injuries due to not being allowed to test be it a returning driver or new one is just life then.
I do have a question though. Would you let Massa test if he returns before the end of the season?

Your missing the point, IN-SEASON TESTING IS BANNED. That is the Rules of Formula 1 this season if you like it or not its called TOUGH!
And Massa cannot test ITS THE RULES!!!! (Its not up to me anyway, who you think I am Max Moesley :p )

Yes people have established that .....
BUT you seem to be the one missing the point of the thread, this is to discus whether we THINK they should be allowed to mid season test. We all know they cant, as thats the rules, but we can still discuss whether we think they should.

Im on about the Alguesauri/Scuhmacher testing, if ones not allowed the other should not be.
on the thread point of view I think there should be testing.
The main reason it were stopped was cause of costcutting anyway.
