There's mention on the questions for Alan Gow, that Phil Glew is going to be out at Brands in a BTCC car. Does anyone know any more 'cause think this is great news!!!

I remember Phil Glew being interviewed at Rockingham (Live on ITV4) after securing the championship and he mentioned racing at Brands as a possibility.

i personally think that racing at brands would hinder him.save the money and do more testing, get used to a touring car, instead of being chucked in the deep end .
for sure he is good enough, but touring cars are so so different, save the money and go testing so he can make an even more impressive debut next year
my opinion for what its worth :)

I agree with you in that respect bruce, but if he were to have a successful meeting and get some points in the bargain, it would massively increase his chances of getting even more sponsors/money for next year as well as having one meetings experience before next season, so it could be worth being thrown in at the deep end.

not sure about drivers "dropping in " for the last meeting, theres a lot at stake for the leaders and it would be a real pity if someones youthfull enthusiams or desire to make an impact with potential sponsors ruins someone championship

All the other drivers know whats at stake so I very much doubt they will get involved and ruin Turkington/Gio/Plato's title push, regardless of experience, so I doubt it would be an issue.

I'll be very interested to see how Phil Glew gets on in this one off drive. The Clio's are a great way of cutting your teeth for the rough and tumble of BTCC,so possibly the transition won't be that difficult?? ;)

I don't see why not, they are current drivers so the chance to try it out is never a bad thing. Plus if they do well it's something to take to sponsors for 2010.
Good luck to Phil for the future. :)

Who else has made the step up from Clios to BTCC?
The obvious one who springs to mind for me is Tom Onslow-Cole ... and hes certainly been up to standard :D so no reason Phil cant be. And I can see the likes of WD40 as being long terms sponsors for him, so best of luck to him I say! Will be great to see him on the grid at Brands, next year and beyond!

Didn't John Bintcliffe come from Clio's to joing the Audi team.
I thought Rob Collard drove a Primera in the Production class.

Collard drove the Primera in 2000. In 2001 & 2002, he drove a Clio, (off memory, had reliability issues??)
