gmail accounts not allowed?

I'm wondering why you aren't allowed to sign up to the main site with a free email account like gmail? I do not have an ISP email address as I share the internet connection with others.

Surely an exception can be made for these email addresses?

I think the reason is that we had an issue with people signing up with free accounts and 'spamming' the forum with unnecessary posts. :(

Most ISPs allow multiple email addresses to be created, could you ask the people you share from to create you an ISP email address as part of their multiple addresses quota?

It isn't the forum, I signed up on the forum using a gmail account, so I find it a little strange.
