On last years rally GB (November) some of, well, most of rally's big names were caught speeding on the public road sections between stages.

This could mean the exclusion for the drivers in this years rally GB. This could be a big blow as this years WRC looks like it might go down to the last rally.

This is true, nd there are many reports on a variety of websites..but of course i can't list them here!

i heard a little bit about this on the news. surely if a lot of drivers are banned from the roads this will put the rally in a bad light and could cause it to be removed from the calender?

what i think is stupid, is the british laws for roads/rally/street racing
the raods are closed for the rally, its not as though some random local whos out for a sunday afternoon drive will be on the road.
the same goes for a street race. one of the problems is the laws about speeding. its stupid

What are the rules for the road sections of the rally? Is it possible that were a driver to have been banned that the co-driver could drive it on the road sections between stages?

Wasnt there a case of speeding somewhere else where one of the drivers (Makinnen??) was given a time penalty in the rally for speeding on a road section?

They're not talking about the closed roads that are used for the stages, but the public roads in between, to get from one to another. That's why all the cars to have to be road legal, and their drivers have to stick to the law when they drive them. In the past we've seen rally cars held up by regular traffic, and being pulled over by the police because they have a wheel hanging off and it's just not safe.

They shouldn't be allowed to get away with speeding on the public roads just because they're in a rally and running a bit late. Would you think a policeman would let you off bcause you were late for work?

I bet at the Rallye Sanremo the Italian Police exclude any drivers going at the speed limit!
