Autosport.com reports that the F1 commision is to submit a new point scoring system to be approved by the World Motor Sport Council. If it is approved the points would be awarded as follows:

1st- 25pts
2nd- 20pts
3rd- 15pts
4th- 10pts
5th- 8pts
6th- 6pts
7th- 5pts
8th- 3pts
9th- 2pts
10th-1pt

It appears that the terrible idea of medals has been ditched which can only be a good thing. What are your thoughts on it?

I like it, but the difference between 1st and second needs to be more than the difference between 2nd and 3rd

Interesting, Basically the 1990's BTCC Scoring System :p

It's definatly a hell off alot better than that Stupid Medal System

The Smaller Teams also have a Better Chance off Sneaking in some Points.

It's a lot better than the medals i agree. I think it's designed to give the smaller teams a chance because of course there will be 26 cars on the grid next year.

I like it a lot more than the medal system, not sure about the distance between the points.

i think they should structure motorsport, so every finisher scores points in a race :) But i like the new F1 points structure. But 25 points for a win.... you can pretty much guarantee, the points scoring record for a season is about to be smashed :p

Too much tampering. The old 9-6-4-3-2-1 system used to work fine. Can see why they need to move with the times tho but think something like 20-15-12-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 would have been better for the top 10. Rewards winning more.

The new one if it goes thro is just the same in terms of difference between 1st n 2nd and 2nd and 3rd?

and 3rd and 4th

Have to agree with the FIA and that though, it does need to changing, points extending to 10th/12th places.

i like it...means if a driver gets a 20 point lead at the top of the title there will be no "thats it over" remarks as all it will take is one DNF and a rival to win for that to be wiped out.

I think its also good because it gives the newbie teams something more achievable to aim for, top 10s are easier to get obviously than top 8s, but I think its a decent points reward if you finish in the top 10, similar to Martin Johnson and John George getting into the top 10 in BTCC.

Why not unify the scoring formula between F1 and MotoGP?

25
20
16
13
11
10
etc...

Seems to work for them, and they don't have discussions every off season about changing it.
