Hi everyone,
being an oval nut as well as a btcc fan and saying as the daytona 500 is just over a month away!, i thought id start the ball rolling for memebers to place thier predictions for nascar in 2010. will Dale jr have a better season, will roushfenway/ford make a comeback from the moderate 2009 they had, what, if any, impact will danica patrick have on the nationwide series and finally will jimmie johnson walk away with his 5th consecutive title(lets hope not). Also feel free to predictyour daytona 500 winner.
my Daytona 500 winner in 2010: kasey khane (driving a ford:eek:)

-Juan-Pablo Montoya will finally win an oval race after his impressive 2009.
-Dale JR will continue to be one of the most overated Nascar drivers ever who can only perform well on Restrictor Plate circuits.....his move to Hendrick has certainly shown up his weaknesses, especially in comparison to his superstar team mates.
-Danica Patrick will not make much of an impact on the Nationwide series...needs much more time to adjust.
-Jimmie Johnson will take another title....nobody else has that 'Chase consistency'. He can pull it out when it matters.
-Daytona 500 winner-always a lottery but I'll plump for JPM to break his duck in the biggest of them all to add to his Indy 500 win. For an outside bet, Brian Vickers for Toyota and Red Bull.

I don't know anything about Nascar but am a fan of all motor sport, always looking to learn more. Might have to watch it, I know JPM so I guess i'll cheer him on:D

Agree with Danica not making much off an Impact, Dario Franchitti found it very Tough indeed.
Personally i want anyone who isnt Jimmie Johnson or Tony Stewart to Win
Hoping for Kyle Busch :D

I don't see Dale Earnhardt, Jr. improving much in 2010. He doesn't impress me as a driver, and Hendrick have never put out four good cars. They can't make the 5 the R+D car anymore now that Martin's in it, so the 88 gets to be the not-so-good one.
I think that Roush-Fenway will have a better season, but not substantially so; Carl Edwards will get back to winning, and Biffle will probably make the Chase. However, I expect little from Kenseth and Ragan. I realize UPS like Ragan, but McMurray was not the weakest link at the team.
Ford in general will improve only because of the addition of Kasey Kahne. Wait and see who gets the 19. No offense to Elliott Sadler, but he's just not getting the job done.
Danica Patrick will boost TV ratings for a brief period of time, much like she did in the IRL. It won't last long. She'll be mid-to-back pack most races; could get lucky at Talladega/Daytona, maybe she'll have a good enough car to score a good result at Fontana/Michigan.
I have no reason to believe Jimmie Johnson won't win another title. I'd certainly like to see a close fight, though I don't mind if he keeps winning. It's history and while he may be "bland," I prefer him to someone with a wretched personality (not naming names Tony Stewart)
Daytona 500 winner? I'll go with Montoya, though the odds of getting the 500 prediction correct are so slim. Anything can happen to mess up the running order.
One other prediction: Marcos Ambrose makes the Chase.

Great responses so far guys!
Daytona is a lottery as is talledega, the "big one" throws a lot of what ifs in the air, but its great to see who you all think will win!!!
Looks like a lot of people are liking JPM's chances this season, he certainley showed a lot of potential in 2009 and as we know is not frightened to mix it up, homestead miami proved this when he "fenced" stewart as payback.
Have to agree with you Jauques Rabbit, out of ragan and mcmurray, roush definetely made the wrong decesion, the 26 outpaced the 6 in many of this seasons races.
elliot sadler showed promice when he raced for robert yates in the 38 taurus so maybe petty(everham)motorsports's move to ford may give him the equipment/motors he needs to reignite his place at the front of nascar.
Marcos ambrose was a masssive suprise this season and if mwr keep moving in the right direction i have no doubt he will win an oval race and make the chase!!
Keep your predicitons coming!!!:D

It's difficult to look past Johnson for the title, but I'm hoping Edwards can turn things around and have a good season.
I'm also expecting Joey Logano to keep on improving and maybe make the chase.
As for Daytona... Denny Hamlin, you heard it here first.:D

Carl edwards to win daytona
Dale jnr to have a slightly improved season and will make the chase but still to behind teamates gordan and johnson
Kurt busch to suprise afew i think and smoky (stewart) to improve too
montoya to win a race and ambrose to win at one of the road races proberbly sears point
overall thou i think itll be close between johnson and kyle busch

bad news guys:
just been reading my copy of autosport and according to the revved up section sky sports have not got a deal for nascar this year.
It suggests that espn (who sell the rights of nascar intenationally) have decided not to renew the deal with sky, due to espn setting up in the uk. ive checked espn for news on whether they are showing nascar and theres no indication they are. Plus if they do it means subscribing to espn aswell as sky :(

found this on another forum,a guy has recieved an email back from espn uk,sounds promising
"I was forwarded your question about NASCAR coverage in the UK in 2010. Thanks very much for your passion and your interest in ESPN and our channels.
At the moment, I can tell you that ESPN is actively in discussions about live coverage of NASCAR in the UK, and we look forward to having more news to share in due course.
Thanks very much, and know that we appreciate - and share - your love of sport.

still no indication what is happening with the coverage this season, ive checked various forums etc and all indications from certain sports broadcasters seem to highlight they are working to get a deal established but thats all, though there was a rumour on a forum which said sky sports could show a highlight show for this season, it wont be the same though.:(

Cheers fordprefect,
the link was useful, kieth obviously is still passionate about nascar.
Also i checked my sky programme schedule and at 6pm on monday 8th of feb there will be a one hour show on skysports 4. programme description is not availible so i dont know what it is about. But i would urge anyone that wants nascar on thier tv this year to watch it, or if your not in, still put it on autoview. Skysports may be checking thier ratings to see if a highlight show for the 2010 season is worth putting on the tv. Its a long shot i know but its worth a try:p

yeah ive just watched the replay of the practice incident, mark mark martin was very unlucky, however he is on the pole for the daytona 500 and next to him is dale earnhardt jr, making it an all hendrick front row. the rest of the field is now determined by their finishing positions in the gatorade duels on thursday. mark martin is a veteran of the sport so to speak, nearly 50, whats also interesting to note is Bill Elliot(1988 winston cup champion)who is 54 was 4th fastest in qualifying. Could we have an over 50 daytona winner this year? just when everyone thought a certain german coming back to f1 at 41 was a unbelievible story!:p

Anyone watching the Daytona 500 NASCAR? Seen some pretty good racing so far.
Quite a wait while the track is repaired for a pothole. Though I appaud the NASCAR commentry team for keeping us informed with other chats to drivers and team members. So the wait didn't seem so long.

Luke: You'll love it! Though there's plenty of time for loo breaks when the red flags come out.
It was a great race and Dale Earndhart JR came out of no where in the end to make 2nd.
Regardless of the Red Flags it didn't feel like it was dragging on for ages with the Commentry team keeping us informed and entertained.
F1 could learn a lot from NASCAR about how to put on a show...

A real good finish too the race, shame about the long red flag stoppages but was well worth staying up for. The cars did look good under the lights.
It would be brilliant if F1 was this unpredictable. (Anyone of 10-15 cars could have won.)

as always an amazing race!!!!! jaime Mac getting the win was unexpected, but at the same time great to see, especially being pushed by his ex roush teamate biffle, i ber jack roush is kicking himself for letting him go instead of david ragan. i had my hopes up that sky could of secured live coverage when kieth said he would be able to announce somthing during the week. unfortunately he then said later sky would only be showing the higlights of the rest of the season, gutted. the racing was brilliant though, also interviewing brian france(ceo of nascar) was brilliant. kept me entertianed from start till finish.

While that's the case, it's a shame about how they handle the American ad breaks, as it's too quiet... I would like to see them turn up the volume on the cars, but appreciate that's probably not possible.
That crash with 99 and 12 was something else though and Carl Edwards has admited that he more or less did it on purpose! Could've been so much worse... Well that's how it goes in NASCAR, rivals get a bit heated sometimes.
