According to a well known touring car source on the internet it states that seat are for pulling out of the wtcc this year. They say that they got this information from the El Mundo newspaper which is the second largest newspaper in Spain

I've just read that too.... I'd wait until an official announcement has been made regarding Seat Sport, but it does mention that Seat would redeploy the 50 members of staff across different roles within Seat.

If they did pull out before the 2010 season starts, i wonder what impact it'll have on the WTCC!!! There'll be a few top line touring car drivers looking for drives too

Ouch if True, Only 2 Beemers and 3 Chevvys as far as Manufacteurs go atm (Not sure what the deal with Lada is yet)

Gonna be very Independent Infested this year ¬.¬

Manufacture wise, its going to end up like btcc with none. But thats not a problem as long as theres enough cars to race.

Whats going to happen to tarquini?

Looks like it's heading that way. Wonder what Tarquini will do as well? Superstars in Italy?

Wonder whether any Seat Leons TDI's will make it into the BTCC (he hopes!!! :p :p :p)

just read the article in el mundo and it would seem to be an offical announcement made by the head of HR at seat, they feel the cost v benefit does not justify continuing at world level, they will however focus on sporting activities more closely related to their clients, seat cup, supercup and eurocup and the wtcc personal will be re engaged in those areas.

no more disel v petrol debates then at wtcc but losing 5 or 3 cars from any grid is a major loss and i really cant see any replacements rushing to fill the gaps wtcc is a long and expensive season and few companies can really benefit from world wide coverage.

looks like ivan muller seen the writing on the wall and made the move to chevie

Can't say I'm surprised after they pulled out of the BTCC. Plus running all those cars would be very expensive.

As long as no one looses their jobs because of this, which sounds like they won't, that's all that matters.

Did I see somewhere a few days ago that Tom Coronell could end up with a TDi for next year? I really hope he does. :D:cool:

Well it's official now, Seat are out off the WTCC  On the Main WTCC website

Ah well nevermind... Atleast we wont have a 5 Car Diesel Train every weekend now.

So right now we have BMW vs Chevrolet vs Lada (assuming their sticking around) vs Independents...

If anything this has made the WTCC slightly more Interesting..

-----------

On a slight off topic note, I wonder if this now puts doubts on the Leon Supercup.

I think they might concentrate on those kinds of series more. :)

Correct. They (Seat Sport) are going to focus on the Eurocup and customer teams - there will be customer TDi teams it looks like

How many more nails can be banged in the WTCC coffin before the FIA realise they need to change things??

They are changing - 2011, going from 2.0l to a 1.6l turbo petrol engines

Who knows if it will be successful though?

You could ask the Same Question about the NGTC Rules for BTCC..

I have a feeling 2010 is abit off a Transtional Year for Touring Cars...The calm before the Storm if you will

the smart move i believe would be to agree with as many national championships a car spec that could be used internationally and nationally. then manufactures could develop cars for a much wider potential customer base and aspiring drivers and teams could make the step up much easier.
in the present situation only bmw seem to have a definate international policy where they willingly sell cars to private teams for wtcc, btcc, dtcc stcc not to mention various asian and middle eastern championships.
seat were never willing to sell a tdi model to customer teams and even the petrol versions had leasing conditions applied to the engines.
