Now please tell me he isnt being serious. The biggest motor racing series in the world, yet the only way he can see it getting better and more exciting is by introducing .... shortcuts  Since when in the history of motorsport has a basic track not been good enough to produce good racing, now we have to add little sections so cars can cut a corner and save time.

Surely this will lead to upmost confusion as to how many times each driver has used the shortcut and just muddle up the field. There are much better ways of increasing overtaking than this. I think its a plainly stupid idea and it isnt Bernies first, after the medal system joke. How can this guy run a huge series like F1 with ideas like these?

Your only just figuring this out now? :p

I wouldnt put it against him proposing that F1 Cars are strapped with Grenades and can shoot other cars out the Way... That little Gremlin needs locking away ¬.¬

It'll be like Mario Kart soon :p If that rule had have been in place for the french GP of 2008, Hamilton wouldn't have had the problem he did with the cutting chicanes rule :p

He would have been allowed to keep his Belgian GP win ;)

A shortcut system, in my opinion, would make a complete mockery of top class motorsport. What an example to viewers or prospective viewers, "the only way the best drivers in the world can overtake each other is by skipping a small section of the proper circuit." Stupid, stupid idea. Come on Bernie sort it out!

My concern would be safety - would be like a motorway sliproad drivers having to check their mirrors looking for cars coming from all areas.

I would say he lost the plot but I havent seen any prove he had any to start with. I guess he has been watching Rallycross with there Joker laps. Only thing is it works for Rallycross as each car has to take a Joker lap during the race. It would ruin F1 seen as these new rules were meant to help overtaking. Wait werent they Bernies rules? Ok that explains it.

Apparently there are a number of suggestions that Bernie has put forward to improve the show, not just this one. The shortcut idea won't happen and the reason is because it is a negotiating technique to get his way. He has put forward other proposals alongside this ridiculous one so the rulemakers will feel his other ideas are more sensible to vote in. It's just Bernie being Bernie, making a tongue in cheek suggestion that he knows will never be voted in to use to his advantage and to stand back, have a laugh and watch the storm that it brews up!

I can just imagine the Leading Driver entering the GP Loop for the Final Lap only for a Car about 20 Seconds behind to go across the Indy Loop and stealing the win :D

And this is exactly the rerason i only watch the qualifying and the race, then i take no other interest in F1 at all after that.

It's suggestions like this that have really turned me off F1 these past few seasons!

Would it be better that instead of shorts cuts you could get a UFO to beam you car in front of the one you are trying to overtake
