What was it some of you (Les if I recall) were saying about the Clio Cup recently? It didn't have a future?

renault UK Motorsport today have announced it will stay with us in its current guise through until the end of 2005 with a new phase Clio coming in in 2006.

Shame on those who said otherwise. For those who like their racing, this remains the best single-make saloon car championship out there.

And I see Paul Rivett is back this weekend in place of Mr Buxton at Boulevard ...

I am really chuffed that they are continuing it on until 2005 and as long as it stays with TOCA the championship will be superb. As Danny says - it is a reall breeding ground for future touring car drivers.

I bet the teams must be really pleased that they can sort things out budget wise.

Now just confirm it stays with TOCA Mr Gow

If the rest of the races are anything like today's, let's have 3 races per meeting!!

if todays race was an example you would have 2 cars left at the end and most of the drivers running out of budget by the third round.

It was carnage - very nearly a repeat of last years crash which may have finished one drivers racing career.

and why?

well one driver said not enough time to warm their tyres - the touring cars get two laps - the clios and porsches only one and both had spinners due to cold tyres. It doesn't seem a lot to ask for - if that is the answer? Or maybe a kick up the **** would be more effective?

That was sickening - we were stood right by Graham Hill when that crash unfolded. Good to see everyone was ok, but on the first lap of a Clio race one should almost expect such an incident.

well you shouldn't - someone is going to get seriously hurt one day.

Love the Clio's but they should do something about the tyre temps if that is why we have so many accidents. It is a good championship, and is a training ground for drivers and teams alike. What with Danny Buxton driving the Vic Lee BTCC Pug, and Team Griffing stepping up to BTCC top class with the good old 406. Good luck to them next year.
Hope to see more Clio's on the grid on next year.

Don't meant to cause any offence, but the drivers are all grown-ups and know the risks involved. No-one wants to see anyone get hurt and having seen a serious crash at Paddock a couple of years ago when a single-seater driver went flying into the gravel, I was the last person to find it a piece of entertainment. However, the actual racing provided a lot of the weekend's entertainment.

At the end of the day, if a driver wants to avoid an accident, they'll get out of the way by slowing down etc. But who's going to do that??

People already have, look at the amount of injurys last year.

Feel so sorry for Bob Smith, he was a class driver, i saw him a few months ago because his son, William, races int he same championship as i do, Bob is a very nice and friendly guy, he seemed OK (eye wise) but he didn't deserve it.:(
