Never thought I'd say this but this year's F1 season is proving to be more competitive and exciting than the BTCC!
Now I realise I'll be upsetting a few people and I'll admit that F1 will always be king in my world but 2 points separating 3 drivers, 3 different teams, 8 winners in one season from 5 teams, Ferrari struggling, Hungarian GP involved in interesting race shocker!! Will we have to wait another 20 years for this??

:( Thats a brave thing to say when the BTCC Championship is still wide open

To discuss old Touring cars when it's about and also on the general motorsport.
But when I mean the F1 is more exciting, I only mean the new BTCC. Isn't exciting, on the other hand I watched Donington 98 the other day and still had me on the edge of my seat!

It's not nearly as wide open as F1 though, is it?
F1 is having a fantastic year, it's really been great, especially compared to last year. The championship really is close.
The racing in BTCC is closer though, there's more overtaking and wheel-to-wheel action.
As for telling off people for coming on here when they prefer F1 to Touring Cars - come off it! My favourite championship is Formula Renault. Does that mean that I'm not allowed to comment on any other championships I like following? If we're going to alienate anybody who comes to watch Touring Cars after liking F1 then the BTCC will always be a minority sport.

I know what you are saying but I am sure if I was to go on the Official F1 web site forum and say that the BTCC (or whatever) is more exciting than F1 then I would not expect a favourable response (or would I?) IMO

You people need to chill out.
Motor racing is about watching cars and bikes driving around the circuit, street or forest (for the rally fans) as fast as they will go in the hope that they will be the first to finish. But most of all its about the love of fast cars and bikes. I always find the crowds at motor sport events to be the best of any sport, its not like at a football match where there are two sides who hate each other and will probabily try to kill each other out side the stadium. Motor racing has the best fans not matter what type of motor racing it is.
As for the F1 season, it has been great. Hope that Montoya wins.
Good also to see a new breed of GP drivers. Jean Pablo, Kimi and Alonso. Can not wait to see tham all in cars capable of winning constantly.Hope that Montoya wins.

I have to agree with Croft Fan.
I re-discoverd the BTCC again this year after 3 years away helping to run a Club Championship.
It really is all about what happens on the day and enjoying the show, and my return trip to Thruxton in May left me gob-smacked.
F1 is having a good CHAMPIONSHIP, and the run in to the end of the season is going to be a tense one, but for sheer seat of the pants RACING, and "bangs for ya bucks" you cannot beat a good BTCC thrash. Sure, Muller is going to win it, but so what?
Enjoy the moment!
Claw - stick with it! There are plenty of us here that remember the Super Tourers with great affection, as well as (my personal favourite) the Group A days, and are more than willing to share our reminices.

Well said Stuart. Stick around Claw. Your facetious posts are always entertaining. People with a definite opinion who aren't afraid to voice it should be encouraged. Just for once, F1 is right up there with the BTCC. Granted, the sometimes odd qualifying doesn't half help. The BTCC has enjoyed numerous great seasons though, F1 has had 2003 as a starting point.
Croft fan is right about the nature of motorsport fans. There is one BTCC driver I really cannot abide, but I would happily spend hours in the company of anyone really fond of that particular person. Motorsport enthusiasts love the sport itself whatever their driver allegiances.

Funny you should say that, Stig, whenever a Vodafone ad comes on the telly I'm hoping it's the dreaded Schuey and not that annoying ball-kicker/clothes horse bloke. I daren't mention his name as I'd hate to subject him to overexposure...

I think you are right to say the battle for the 2003 Formula 1 World Championship is closer than the BTCC. With 2 points seperating the top three drivers in comparison to 27, there is no other way of looking at it to be honest. All credit to Formula 1 when credit is due.
Les~ Enjoy two entirely different championships for what they are.

Have to say, and I would like to know if others agree, that F1 has had a good season this year, but what would have happened if it hadn't? If there had been another year like the last two or three would that have been the end of F1? I would venture to suggest not!
On the other hand if BTCC had got as uninteresting as F1 had I don't think it would exist today.
What do you all think?

I have to agree if the BTCC had ever got as boring as F1 did then the BTCC would not have survived. But thankfully that is as likely to happen as Nicolas Kiesa winning a Grand Prix this for Minardi.:D

You may say so:D it's just a name I've used in other forums.;) . With all the bumper bashing and robust overtaking moves I don't think BTCC will ever get too boring.:)

Alan, F1, whether you enjoy it or not has been with us for years and will never go away. It is a global sport with blue chip companies supporting it. It's appeal didn't diminish with the Senna/Prost/Mclaren domination of the eighties and won't in the future if another manufacturer does likewise.
I can't imagine the BTCC ever becoming as boring as F1 has been at times. The racing will always be close and the competition between teams is such that nobody dominates. Sure, Vauxhall has won the manufacturers again in 2003, but consider how many different race winners this year and the quality of the action we've seen. Don't forget another big, big consideration, the BTCC is accessible to joe public. Drivers or team personnel are happy to stop for a chat/autograph/photograph in the paddock. To do that in F1 wherever, you'd need to pay a drivers agent scary money.
