Mexican round of WTCC cancelled

(UKPA) – 6 hours ago

The second round of the World Touring Car Championship at the Puebla circuit in Mexico has been cancelled.

The event had been due to take place on the weekend of April 11, following on from Sunday's first round of the series in Brazil, but has now been scrapped as organisers could not guarantee the safety of competitors and spectators due to unrest in the area.

Series promoter Marcello Lotti told autosport.com that no decision had yet been taken as to whether the Mexican round would be replaced, or if the season would be reduced to 11 rounds.

He said: "No decision has yet been taken about the possibility to replace the Mexican event.

"We will think about it, evaluate the different opportunities and decide before the next meeting at Marrakech.

"I will decide in one month, but it could also be that we can stay with 11 events."

It's interesting that there is all this speculation about the Puebla round, but nothing mentioned on the WTCC site.

not sure whats going on but he wtcc website has started a count down clock for the next round and yet television commentary clear stated that "force majeur" had caused the local organisers to cancel the puebla round as they could not have the venue repaired/ready in the time scale available. im not sure about container routes in that part of the world but id imagine the equipment will head to mexico as scheduled and be forwarded to morrocco perhaps earlier than initially planned

No point in sending the equipment to Mexico to be sat in a warehouse for several weeks. It will all get shipped directly back to Europe.
