:( A once iconic track looking like a mess... I hope the previous owners never see the place again, their dreams never paid off.

I agree, with all the reports I've read I was expecting far more of it to be dug up and missing. It's bad enough though.:(

I was just thinking that - looks like the road outside my house.
The thing is it doesn't look like they are going to start repair work on it any time soon

The track itself doesn't look like it will take much to fix, but restoring the infield to useablity - that looks pretty major.

They still have 6 months until the BTCC race though don't they?

Probably, but that will take much longer than 6 months to sort out. Much ... much longer.

I assume it was taken last weekend prior to the SaveDonington event. I was there on Sunday and it was just like in the video.

The trenches across the track are worse than they look in the video. Most have been very roughly backfilled and will need re-excavating prior to any resurfacing.

No real repair work has taken place and none will start until a new lease is signed.

True, but 6 months ago we said not to worry as they had a year to sort things out and nothing has happened since then.

Even if a new lease is signed this week, which isn't likely, how quickly will work start? Any construction company will need a lead time to assemble the necessary equipment and manpower. That is of course is assuming the funding is already in place - can't see any construction company wanting to start without a sizeable deposit/guarantee. It's probably 2-3 months worth of work but 2-3 months starting when?

I hope something can be sorted soon.

To see such a legendary track like that is frankly depressing. I hope the previous lease holders never touch a race track again. I hope for British Motorsport that someone will step in and return the track to how it should be. I have only been there three times (RWS 07 and BTCC and F3/GT 08) but it was a fantastic track.

I could only watch half of that video and turned it of such a shame the way the track is at the moment, have some really good memorys of donny it was the first place i ever went to see the touring cars back in 1995.

But im going to stay posative it will be sorted out you watch.

Good piece in the Motorsport News this week.

Wheatcroft says: "we are only weeks away from announcing the new circuit operator and starting the wheels in motion" He believes it can be ready in time for the BTCC and will only cost around £1.5 million to get into operational condition.

Positive signs.

Been going there since i was 5 years old and to see it like that depresses me. It is a good representation of greed and arrogance from the previous owners. Always thought he was over confident in his interviews.

Sad News emerging from Kevin Wheatcroft, Lee Combs and Save Donington today, there is unlikely to be any new leaseholder signed in the near future, meaning we are unlikely to see any racing at all at Donington this year (:

Its heart breaking to see it like that.:(
Bernie must be really proud of his part in the demise of another British racing circuit with such a long heritatge. Its about time he stuck his hand in his own well lined pockets and did something to help, but I wont hold my breath waiting.

I was virtually in tears when I went on the 7th of March. Since I have been marshaling I have classed both Donington and Mallory Park as my home circuits. It has been strange planning out my season with nothing at Donny, the way I normally plan is apply for GP in Oct, start looking at the rest of the season, normally have the GP confirmed by Feb so that is the 1st date I set, I then follow it by the local BTCC rounds ie Silverstone, Donny and Rockingham and then fill the rest of the weekends with events at Mallory and Donny at the top of the list, looks like Rockingham and then Silverstone will get more of my time for the moment.
It is still worrying that after the announcement on the 7th of March with Kevin Wheatcroft saying that they were just waiting for the 1st party to sign on the dotted line that it has gone so quiet. Heres hoping by later in the year I can adjust my marshaling calender to include some meetings at Donny

Despite the fact that i never visitied donington before its demise, I still have very found memories of watching the BTCC from DP. The cars hairing down the Craner Curves will forever life with me

It is tragic to see a circuit like donnington in such a state

You make it all sound so final :(

I find it hard to believe that this country would allow it's best racing circuit to go down the tubes, with all the heritage it has.

Well...I don't actually. :( But I really hope otherwise.
