View Full Version : What's gone wrong with formula 1?

What on earth has happened to F1? It used to be so relaxing, so soothing, so soporific, so easy to enjoy, to predict, to miss. This morning it was utter chaos! How could they have got it so wrong? Michael being so disrespected. Lewis being so stoic - not him to blame the team. Jenson just being in the right place at the right time - no judgement calls, no driving skills. What happened to all the usual rules of F1 - find your place at the first corner then stick to it. Was it really worth getting up at 5 this morning to watch such a load of old rubbish? OK maybe I will be buying a couple of tickets for Silverstone this year.

Was a great race, I have a message for Mark Webber

"LEARN HOW TO DRIVE YOU PR!CK"!!!!!

Well done to ruining what could have been a respectable save from Hamilton, but no the big clumbsy tw@t smashes into the back with 2 laps to go.

If you want to pass a message onto him, then pass it somewhere where Mark Webber will be likely to read it...

I have to agree with you on this. So far there's been three GP's, I haven't been able to watch any of them due to getting boring about 5 laps in, and then its a case of follow the leader for 90% of the race.

I know what went has gone wrong with F1. It was back in the 70's when they added something to the cars. That thing was Aerodynamics. Take the aerodynamics off and the racing will be good, leave it on and welcome to dullsville population the F1 field.

I seriously doubt Webber will have any time to brouse forums, I didn't write it expecting him to read it anyway, it was just written in the spare of the moment when I was a little miffed with him.

I think I've figured it out!

We're fans of the BTCC right? well that's sprint racing, not 'endurance' no wonder we get bored, it's a short attention span. :p

the problem with Formula 1 is that there are a few joke teams who are playthings for the rich owners, for example Hispania Racing who cud only manage a few laps on the first race and who will prop up the table if they do finish a race, while i support Team Lotus, they only had 8 months and a very tight budget to put two cars together and they are now paying for it with reliability issues like in the malaysian race where both the cars had hydraulic issues. although i feel sorry for the drivers who hace to race these unreliable cars

sorry bout the length of the post!! :p

*******s. HRT have done an incredible job. They turned up at the first race not having turned a wheel and Chandhok went into Q1 not having driven the car at all, and Senna had spent about 20 minutes of actual driving in it. Those two have balls the size of planets for that.

And yes, they were hugely off the pace at the start - around 12-13s. But that's still impressive. Yes, last year the entire field was covered by 2s, but last year we had no new teams at all. And the last race the HRT's were only 7s off the pace.

They need a lot of work. But I'm supporting them every step of the way. Beautiful car too.

Same with Force India

Could say that about them all. It's all down to the designers/team principals. Look what Adrian Newey did for Williams in the early nineties, Mclaren in '97-00, Red Bull for '08-'10...

Mike Gascoyne deserves a tip of the hat too. Great work with Jordan, Force India, and look at hoe rapidly Lotus is coming along now! Great guy.

Eh?

All I was saying, is that like Torro Rosso, Force India are a team that were neccesarily quick to begin with, but after being given time to adapt, are showing how they are a good team. Just like Hispania need to be given time.

Sorry. I meant that all F1 teams start out behind the pace of the other teams. It's the nature of the sport - it's so technologically advanced that money makes up most of the ground, but experience makes up those last couple of seconds. Look at BAR - massive, massive budget, but they never really got that final push. Same goes for Toyota, who tried to run it like a company, with boards of directors and whatnot.

Red Bull started out as also-rans to strong midfield contenders, but it wasn't until Newey really got his teeth stuck into it (along with Dietrich Maestichz's huge money coffer's) that they really became a front-running team.

The problem with F1 is those in charge, for them its money and control, daft regulations like sticking a scaffolding plank to the underside of the car dont help, thank goodness BTCC has someone like Alan making the decisions. F1 is supposed to be the elite of motorsport, the cutting edge of design and technology but all we get are regs that restrict the designers and engineers. The result is we get cars that are made to meet a specific standard and sometimes that leads to a lack of competition.

The plank makes sense. I don't like it, but it served it's intended purpose. I'd happily launch into an explanation, but I doubt anyone would read it! :D

Its ok I am aware of the ground clearance control purpose of the skid block and that its not really wood but a wood composite. Its just funny to have to have something so basic built into something so technologically advanced. My natural sarcastic wit;)

Oh, then I agree with you! Haha. Venturi tunnels need to come back into Formula One.
