Had me worried for a minute . . . thought I had the wrong weekend for Rockingham. Doesn't hurt to be early I guess . . . :D

I was at Rockingham talking pictures. This is my first effort at motorsports photography. What do you think, be honest.

Some pretty nice photos dude! What camera/equip you using?

I like this one:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/jp6ajj/Motorsports%20Photography/IMG_2315.jpg

Nice shots - you've got the first lesson down which is panning with your targets and your shutter isn't too fast - you've got some nice background blurring and wheel movement.

The only thing I would say is they are a bit static - the one I linked there was good as the slant gives the overtake a bit of excitement.

The other thing I'd say is maybe frame your shots slightly differently (I don't know if you've cropped those from originals). The cars are generally bang on in the centre of each photo. I always try to give the cars/bikes "somewhere to go" if you get me. You can see my (very amateur) photos in my sig.

But overall good man, love looking at other peoples' photos :D

My first contribution. Rockingham isn't my favourite place to take photos, but I hope you like these. I've tried to include a little of everything from Sunday. Mostly taken from the Pitlane roof. Please let me know your thought. Please don't reproduce these photos anywhere else without contacting me first.

You'll need to make the album viewable by everyone, because all you can see is one photo!

Thank you for you welcomed comments. I am using a Canon 50d +Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. I have the Canon EF 100-400L on the way! I have done a 10-20% crop on some of the pictures, and understand what you mean about them being static in some photos. The photo you mentioned was taken at 1/200 f/11 at ISO 100 at about 140mm. I think it looks nice too. Would you say the "static pics" are due to settings or cropping?

I wish the AF got the over take as sharp as this one.

Your settings seem fine. Photos are a bit overcast but that's surely down to the weather rather than settings and I think digital editing would make them look too artificial. Just about the cropping really, but that's all personal preference!

My stuff <3

100-400L is a wicked lens, you'll love it man!

And autofocus? Real men use manual :p

Sorry about that. Copied the wrong link. Try this instead.

Should see 29 pictures in the set. Mostly taken with a Canon 100-400, with a few using the 17-85, both on a 400D body.

Those are obscenely good. I like the one where Plato's taken his helmet off - looks like another day at the office - you've captured it perfectly!

Do you have a flickr/photobucket for your photographs?

Hi, thanks for your comments. Yes I do have a flickr account. If you want to have a look, I'll add you as a contact. I'm afraid I don't post anything publicly on there. I've been going to BTCC and other race meeting for a number of years, but only had decent kit for the last 18 months or so.

The 100-400L is a great lens if you need something that give that level of zoom. It's quite heavy and I shoot handheld so after a day out you certainly know about it. The focus is pretty quick, even on my 400D (I'm looking at an upgrade to a 50D shortly). The 2 mode Image stabilisation is useful, particularly for motorsport. I was lucky and picked this lens up brand new at a very low price. It is nearly 50% more expensive now due to the exchange rates etc.

Some really good shots here Alsicole. I actually like the shots of the drivers, pit lane activity and the general spectactle of a race days as much as the cars racing.

Thanks. I think different tracks favour different types of pictures. I love the fact that you can go up on the roof of the pits at Rockingham to get some of the behind the scenes action.
