I would love to see more RWD cars in the BTCC. I was wondering why only the BMWs have been chosen (by 3 separate teams).
Is there a reason for this?
Additional, which cars would be suitable and why have they not been chosen?
Thank You

We've seen Lexus IS200's before, weren't competitive

I know, and i was one person out of many who helped the BTC racing guys, they were a great bunch to take the lexus is200's on but the problem, like many other teams has to be in regards to finance / vehicle development! (Never easy for an independant team!)

I'm sure there are many cars, both RWD and FWD that are suitable for touring car racing but the manufacturer/team hasn't developed them.
The BMWs are there because BMW thinks it will help them sell more cars by racing them so it put money into making them a decent touring car.
If other manufacturers thought racing would help sell more cars and make more money it would develop decent touring cars.
I'm sure those Lexus would have been fast had BTC racing had unlimited funds.

Well no, if that were the case they would be a works team. I would venture its more to do with the proliferation of BMW tourers around the world - plenty in WTCC, V8 Superstars, etc.

Because they have already been built for touring car racing!

Suitability? That's simple, they need to have a minimun length of 4.4m and be avaliable from any motor dealer!
As for why no other has been chosen? Even simpler, COST! Someone has to pay for the construction of these cars.
If you look at the current cars, the Vectra was built by 888 and paid for by Vauxhall. The Cruze has been paid for by Chevrolet. The Focus by a rich backer for Arena. Dynamics has help from Honda and of course BMW built the 320si's.
People here seem to think any team can build their own cars. Yes they have the capability, but to build a NEW car you need money.
Without these backers you won't be seeing too many new cars built to the new NGTC regs. Which is why the new car being built as a prototype must succeed.

To cost to build a new NGTC car, will be cheaper than buying an S2000 car upto I'd say a couple of years old. As the cars get older, they get cheaper, but their will still be the high running costs for engines and spares. Not all small teams will have the capabillity to build new cars under NGTC regs but have the oppertunity to buy a chassis from other teams building cars then use the same engine, have their own built or buy/rent the TOCA engines.
