I've corrected your spelling of Junior (from Juniour) in the title and also moved the thread into the Support Race area of the Forum where it belongs.

Thanks

Heart says Tom Ingram, head says Jake Hill - dream would be Jody Fannin.

As for Sarah - dunno. Would be great to see Louise as Champion actually... ah whatever. Whoever wins it will deserve it

Jake Hill im Hoping, call me Bias but i like the Surname Hill (Surname of my all time Favourite F1 Driver :p)

Tom Ingram and Louise Richardson seem to be the only other Legitimate Contender's

Sarah Moore has been somewhat Dissapointing This year.. Not really adapting to the New car it would seem..
-----------------------------

Looking at their Ages this will be Richardson's only shot at the Title as she will be too Old for the Series next year unless it starts before March 25th

Ingram and Sarah Moore Could get 1 More Season in if they wanted to..

Suppose we will have to wait and See..

I can see Jodie Fanin being an Odd's on Favourite in '11

I really want Louise Richardson to win, without doubt one of the nicest drivers in the series. Never been fond of Jake Hill myself, so hope he doesnt win. Always back the underdog :)

Finlay Ratcliffe :D

Think it'll be Jake, would like to see Louise win it though.

Jody Fannin is my prediction for next years title, that boy can drive.

Fifth in the standings, picked up 4 podiums. In a very very competitive series, thats still a very good showing. What were you expecting from him?

think jake hill has been the class of 2010, i am still not convinced about sarah moore TBH I dont rate her, okay she won the title last year but there wasnt a lot of competition also everyone has had to adapt to the new car and the moore's did a heck of a lot of testing more than most so she should have hit the ground running

Hello everyone, apologies for not being on here for ages!
Reference everyone's kind words about Jody Fannin;all i can say is that he has responded fantastically well to my in-car instruction on various trackdays,it is his 1st year in cars(straight out of Junior rotax karting, top contender),has an abundance of driving talent, but most impressively conducts himself out of the race car in a professional manner. He is a pleasure to work with.I myself really enjoy testing his G40,it is a lovely car to drive and is great fun!
Unfortunately,he will be 17 in september this year, therefore will not be able to do a 2nd junior year,2011 programme is undecided at present.
Reference Jake Hill:really should win it this year,he is great mates with Stefan and has speed and ability....just needs to address a few 'personal' things around him to mature into the complete package. and Simon is ace!
hope my views are of some interest,
cheers,
CH

Bit harsh really, she won the title, so clearly has talent, and it was quite competitive last year. I cant vouch for how much testing she did, but the change of team during the pre season couldnt have helped. But yeah, she hasnt adapted to the car well, or just not done well this year, but shes still a good driver.

She also has had a lot of bad luck, other drivers have crashed into her and ruined her races quite a bit. I really rate her as a driver.

Really would like to see Tom Ingram do well too, seems like a nice lad. Louise Richardson seems really likeable too. Jake Hill is most likely to win it as I said before but in most of the interviews I find him to be pretty arrogant, seems to be certain that he's the best driver on the grid.

Finlay Ratcliffe imo shouldn't be on the grid, there should be a rule that you need some karting experience to enter the championship. It isn't safe for him to be racing on these fast circuits with no driving experience, he causes a lot of accidents too which isn't really fair on the other drivers on the grid. Not a fan of these kids with rich parents who just jump straight into a car when they haven't even driven a kart before. But hopefully he will have gained enough experience this season to be competitive next.

there has been suggestions elsewhere that the ARDS test needs tightening up as atm anyone from the age of 14 can sit a test, get a national B license and go racing without any prior testing. all the ards does is prove that you can drive at a resonable pace round a track without binning it, no training on how to cope when there is 20 cars around you

Finlay is not the worst I have seen there has been quite a few with that wee black cross on a yellow background that are incidents looking for a callsign but it is part of the learning process, every driver has to start somewhere be it in karting, stock cars (you can race full contact minis on the short ovals from the age of 10) or race cars.

Interesting to see the discussion as to 'Who Will Be Ginetta Junior Champion in 2010'

Lot's of fans for Jody - rightly so he's done a great job in his first year - bit like Jake last year - and as many of you have pointed out he would probably win it if he could do it again next year.

Tom Ingram and Louise Richardson are both also doing a great job - it's a tough season for everyone learning the new cars, and they are VERY different to drive and set-up to the old cars, they really reward a fine balance of commitment, i.e. carrying speed into the corner, with precision and smoothness - in some ways you need to drive them like a single-seater, but without the advantage of loads of aero etc....notice how Alice Powell, Mitchell Hale, Dino Zamparelli and of course Nigel Moore have adapted so well to single-seaters.

Anyway, Tom Ingram and Jake are on top at the moment as they've been the most consistent drivers - Jake with six Wins, eight Poles and six fastest laps, Tom with one Win and lots of podiums - so logically if it continues like this it looks likely to be between the two of them but there's a long way to go and of the front runners both Tom and Jake are up against it the most budget-wise.

Just want to say on behalf of Jake and myself thanks to everyone's support for him - he jumped in the car at Thruxton and took double-pole, a lap record and a Win, all thanks to Mike, Mary and Kieren at Tollbar getting him out there after a sponsor pulled out five days before...and I think he's proved he was worth a gamble.

Shame to hear that someone thinks he's arrogant....I suppose cos he's the only one who's Won on Sunday's so far this year he's the only one that's been interviewed he might have sounded a bit 'samey' but I think if you got the chance to chat with him you'd realise that having had to miss half of last year due to funding issues, he's VERY grateful for the chance he's got and knows that the only way he's got a chance of a career in this fickle sport we love is by Winning consistently....with it you have to try and find the fine balance between confidence and arrogance...most of the time I think he does but I'll have 'words'....!

If you are a fan thern thanks, if not that's fine too we all need a bit of variety, but if you are at a TOCA meeting and want to say hello to either of us please come and introduce yourselves....I need some support cos I've got Louise Goodman's role for the next three races so it's a bit of a challenge.

Thanks for your kind words Chris too....

Look forward to Snett - may the best man (or girl!) Win....!

Great to hear from you Simon, got to say I think your boy will get the job done this year.

Slightly off topic here, but are you being lined up to replace Ben Edwards next season as the voice of the BTCC?!! Because rumour has it that Ben is being lined up to replace Jonathan 'Boring' Legard on BBC's Formula One coverage.

Keep up the good work, you and Jake!!

simonmhill
29th Jul 2010, 02:28 PM
Hi Wookieboy

Re your question about whether Ben may be replacing Jonathan Legard. As far as I know it's just a rumour - everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to commentators and presentors - and co-commentators.

Most people - including me - seem to think Martin Brundle is awesome, simply the best in the business - and perhaps because of that Jonathan gets a harsh time compared to him. I think that the Beeb are happy with him - when I last spoke with Lee McKenzie (who I used to work with on A1GP in the Pit Lane) she said that the team were pretty solid, so I doubt if it would change.

It's very flattering to be thought of as being able to step into Ben's shoes - Ben is a very old friend, we used to work together as Instructors at the Racing School at Brands some 20 years ago - and he got me into commentary alongside him for Motors TV back in 2003.

Personally I think he's one of the best commentators in the business - he is incredibly knowledgable - was a Champion driver in Formula First in 1987 (ahead of Kelvin Burt and Shaun Hollamby...!) and in Caterham Vauxhall in 1992 before focussing on his commentary - and has a great style of delivery - and is the most professional guy I've ever worked with...he has done F1 before with John Watson for Eurosport so has the credentials....he would be fantastic but I think things will stay the same for now.

I have commentated on TOCA alongside Ben as a one-off in 2007 at Thruxton when Tim lost his voice (like me at Thruxton this year!) and would love to do it one day if the circumstances are right.

However at the moment I will be covering for Lou who's covering for Steve for the next three races which I'm really looking forward to...then back in the commentary box for the last two rounds...plus I'm doing the WRC and other stuff for Motors TV (Finland this weekend - mega!) and this weekend also doing the SEAT Eurocup, GP3, GP2 and Porsche Supercup....so my voice will be f***ed by Sunday!

Thanks for your kind words re Jake....he's really looking forward to Snett because he had his first race there in the Winterseries in 2008 but hasn't raced there since cos we had budget problems and missed the second half of the year...so hope he'll be on it cos it's ****** close in the Championship.

Please come and say Hi if you're at any races (to either of us).

simon, IMO you are as good if not better than Ben, it is clear to any armchair fan that you have a load of passion for motorsport and you can add a bit of exitement to even the most dull of races

perhaps when you are at sillystone look out a pitlane marshal called Lynne (pixie) she and her stuffed marshal mascot Belinda have travelled about 10k miles this year, that is dedication to motorsport. she is also a good mate of mine

Hi Simon,

Great to see you on the Forum, I'm a massive of Jake's and yourself.

Really pleased with how things are going for you both in the Ginetta Junior's, Its always great racing, the best support race on the Toca package by a country mile.

You add to the excitement of watching the Ginetta Junior's Simon, you are one of the most enthusiastic people in Sport, and its a pleasure to watch. I loved it at Thruxton, you and Jake getting interviewed together. I was also at the circuit that day, It was my 16th Birthday.

I'm going to be coming to Snetterton on both days next weekend, Its my local circuit and a big weekend of Sport for us here in Norfolk. Its Norwich City FC's first match back in the championship at home to Watford on the Friday night, then BTCC Sat and Sunday, I'm going to both those, so its going to be great.

Will come and have a chat with you guys at some point, I did see you last time I was trackside at Rockingham back in April this year, It was early on the Sunday morning, you was on the phone though, and you were dressed up in your ITV gear, and looked busy, so I thought i'd leave you be, but I will find you at Snetterton, I'll do it on the Saturday, as i'm there both days, and you'll be busy with the ITV4 live broadcast on the Sunday.

Good luck with your work as the pit lane reporter on ITV4 for the next 3 rounds, hope it goes well, you did a great job with it at Rockingham, and i'm sure you'll be as good at Snetterton, Silverstone and Knockhill.

Best wishes for Snetterton, Hope it goes well for you and Jake. See you there ;)

Hi Darrell,

Sorry I was a bit tied up at Rockingham - I had a new sponsor for Jake arriving and was trying to organise things for him....thanks for the kind words of support - glad you think my slightly over enthusiastic ways are ok! Imagine what it would be like if Jake gets into Touring Cars....I'd probably explode!!!

Mate be great to say hello at Snett - I'll be around Sat & Sun but as you rightly pointed out Sunday will be a bit manic - been at Snett today for a General Test - Jake's first time there since Feb last year at the Ginetta Media day - he made his car-racing debut in the Ginetta Junior Winterseries in Nov 08...watched his debut standing next to Damon Hill....it was Josh's first win that day....must be the surname!

Jake and his new team-mate Tom Howard were out and both were quick (no MST timing of course) but we think Jake was quickest (Fannin, Swanwick, Richardson, Bonham and Bailey out too...)....despite Jake spinning in the first session at the Esses and stalling - car wouldn't start - and an un-sighted Tom hit him! Two squashed bonnets (Jake's was patched up - Tom's was f***ed...and Tom did a rad) and some sheepish looks, but I'd rather have it happen today than next week...

Anyway, can't wait till next week - hope we get Sunshine - love Snett as I used to Instruct at the Racing School there in the 90's - always such a cool atmos - did the Night Race in 2000 in the Lotus Sport Elise which was superb....bring back Night Races PLEASE Alan.....!!!

Take Care, thanks again, see you there!

Having seen you live on stage - and the talented but 'wrong' bunch of loons that form your band (leading by example) I would've thought that the thought of me quite literally filling Louise's shoes would just get me a job as your new backing singer!

I can't sing - can't play any instruments - don't mind a bit of 'Dad Dancing' but as you know can provide the world with a tsunami of bullshit.....just trainers this weekend - don't even do flip-flops!

Anything in the pipeline for more Guest drives Simon? you seem chuffed with the 2 Chairmans Cup trophy's at Brands, even though you were the only eligible person for it lol :p Your commentary is mega, you bring fun to commentary, most of the time am having a good chuckle lol.

simonmhill
3rd Aug 2010, 12:34 AM
Yeah was chuffed cos I miss racing myself SO much it was great just to do it and have some fun, so to get a trophy was mega. To be perdantic there were three of us eligable - me, Colin White and Tony Hughes! Nothing in the pipeline guest drives-wise unfortunately, and obviously my main focus is on Jake and trying to get him out. There is a chance that Jake and I may race together in the 1000kms Lotus Elise race at Brands in November...we'll see!

Thanks for the kind words - we try and have some fun - it's a tricky balance to hit - between not being too flippant and having a giggle....there's a few series I commentate on elsewhere and the fans there take it all far too seriously and don't really like me laughing or being too trivial....it's not like TOCA fans who get it - it's like being down the pub watching it with my mates! And that's how it's gonna stay!

Take Care

Simon

Loved racing the G50 - great car, fantastic team, just loved racing properly again after so long....did my last full season in the Lotus Sport Elise's in 2000....and had only done four races up to the G50 in between...meant a lot to get on the podium and do a respectable job, especially on that track in the rain!

And to be picky, there were three of us eligable actually - me, Colin White and Tony Hughes....!

Nothing else on the horizon racing wise - focussing on Jake for obvious reasons - although once he finishes the season he's eligable for a senior licence and we might do the 1000km Lotus Elise race at Brands in November together...give the little git a chance to show me up properly!!!

Glad you enjoy the commentary - there's one series I commentate on where the fans take it WAY too seriously and don't appreciate my slightly more laid back attitude. I absolutely LOVE doing the TOCA supports. I've raced in them myself (FRenault 97, Spiders 98, 99 then Elise in 2000 and briefly 01) and have done it for 7 years now and hopefully my enthusiasm and appreciation for a job well done comes through. I feel like I'm down the pub watching it with my mates commentating for you guys....God imagine if we were p***ed doing it! How much crap would we come out with then?!

Thanks for the kind words, means an awful lot to know you enjoy it.

Not long now till the weekend is it, its certainly shaping up to be a cracker!!!!

Just a couple of question's, I see both of the Junior races are on Sunday this weekend, does this mean they will both been shown in the ITV4 show?, I'm going to be at Snetterton, but will record all the TV coverage, and I always love watching the BTCC races and the Junior races back on the tele.

When do you travel to Snetterton?, and will Jake be taking part in the Practice sessions on Friday?

As you have Louise Goodman's Job?, Who has got yours in the commentary box?, I hope its Phil Glew or Rob Huffy, they are great to listen to, like yourself.

Just a few days to go now, then we will be racing!!!

Darrell,

Jake will be up there Thursday, I can't get there till late Friday nite cos of my 'other' job - have to commentate on the highlights of WRC Finland for Motors (not shown in the UK).

Huffy's doing my job and a fine one I'm sure he'll do as always - think he's at Silverstone too, not sure about Knockhill likely to be Glewy.

Good luck Friday nite - my mate Kev Hayes (Les Hayes' husband) is a big Norwich fan so he'll be there - my team play on Saturday...won't tell you who they are but they are in the Championship...!

Good Stuff Simon.

Pleased Huffy is doing the commentary work on ITV, he's great. Yeah I'd expect he'd be at Silverstone as there is not a WTCC clash, but I think your right about Knockhill, Its BTCC and WTCC on the same day, so Huffy can't do it then, Glewy is great though, had a nice chat with him at Rockingham, Top Guy.

Cheers for the best wishes for Friday, really hope we win, good luck to your team whoever they may be, hopefully not Ipswich.

Brad,

Jake could do Juniors again - he's not 17 till Feb 22nd (same birthday as Niki Lauda and Chris Moyles...!) but if things go to plan he will probably do G50's next year or a slim chance of Carerra Cup...

Have had a wet Junior race this year - Brands GP - Jake won from Tom Ingram and David Moore.

It was also damp for the forst race of the year at Thruxton but that wasn't televised.

Jake's headed up to Snett at 7.30 with Motorbase in their Carrera Cup truck so he can help set up with Tollbar, then is there for testing

Fingers crossed for a good one!

Louise is a total star, been doing so well all year but unable to piece it together for a win. She showed good character though, didnt push it for a win, just waited for it to happen and her consistency has been brilliant, which is shown by her taking the championship lead despite winnig only 1 race, ahead of Hill who has won 7! Great performance by Louise and I hope she can go all the way!

I really enjoyed watching the Two Ginetta Junior races at Snetterton yesterday, they were superb entertainment from start to finish.

Awesome job from Louise Richardson in Race 1, after getting knocked off, to come back and win was amazing, Jake Hill unlucky into turn 1 as people have already said.

Sarah Moore's move round the outside of whoever it was after Russell's, was one of the best moves I've ever seen in Motorsport, Well Done Sarah!!!

Race 2 was great to, exciting ending with Jake Hill and Chris Swanwick, clearly Chris Swanwick gained an unfair advantage and Jake Hill should be given the win, he deserved it, outright on the track. Anyone know what the outcome of this was?, didn't get mentioned on the tv coverage I watched back last night after getting home from the track, and I have been checking the official Ginetta Junior website and no mention on there.

Louise Richardson grest podium in 3rd, she had an amazing weekend, all credit to her.

Simon, Really enjoyed your work on the ITV 4 coverage, you were great, your insight and knowledge was super, and your enthusiasm showed even when interviewing the drivers. Great effort. I tried to find you on Saturday and Sunday, but couldn't sadly, there was a guy leaning up against the metal fence at the bottom end of Pit Lane, where martin Johnson's garage was, he had an ITV4 microphone, but it wasn't you. Hope you enjoyed the weekend, I loved it, was great racing. Ginetta Junior's showed why they are the best support race on the grid, amazing.

I hope Jake got awarded the win!!

Best wishes to yourself and Jake!

Fantastic weekend!!

No disrespect to Swanwick but this is the right decision, very suprised the pro am 1 result in the Porsche race 1 wasnt changed after Gilham (incidentally I am cheering for him being a local man) made that move into Russels on the last lap.

simon1220

. Anyone know what the outcome of this was?,

Following an investigation by race officials at Snetterton yesterday evening, Jake Hill has been declared the winner of round 12 of the Ginetta Junior Championship.

Hill, who now has won seven times this season, was fighting with Chris Swanwick for the lead of the race when the cars dived into Russell on the ninth and final lap. Swanwick overshot the chicane and missed out the corner for which the Clerk of the Course decided gave him an unfair advantage (under MSA General Regulation C.2.3).

As a result, a penalty of three seconds was added to Swanwick’s race time, which was enough to hand the race win to Jake Hill. Swanwick appealed the decision but the stewards upheld the Clerk of the Course’s decision and the result therefore stands.

This means that Hill now has a two-point advantage over Louise Richardson in the championship heading to Silverstone on August 21/22.

There we go, the right conclusion was made, just to demote Swanwick one place.

Only outcome they could come out with, when Chris Swanick took to the grass he still had enough time to slow the car and take Russell (Forum) properly and keep 2nd place, as 3rd was a little bit behind.

Shame Louise lost the lead though :p Looking forward to catching up with the racing after Silverstone.

Hi Guys,

Great result for Louise Sunday morning - very pleased as her and her folks are good people.

Very relieved the result was amended in race two as Jake had been behind the game all weekend because his car jammed in 4th gear on the out-lap in testing in Friday and they lost the day - he did exactly what he had to in race two under massive pressure.....all his moves were decisive and fair - and much as I like Chris and his family we all know the rules - if you gain an advantage by cutting the corner you HAVE to give the place back or face a penalty....

It's gonna be interesting for the balance of the year!!!

Might not be able to get on here much for a bit cos I'm away a lot so thanks for the support for Jake (and my ramblings on the telly!) and see you all soon

think Jake Hill might win it (Simon's celebration if he does win it i'm sure would be priceless!), but i'd also like to see Louise doing well, her drive in the 1st race of the weekend to come back from 4th to win was fantastic

Either way there's some top talent in the juniors this season, whoever wins it will be a deserving winner and i look forward to watching them race for many years to come

Jake looks to have the makings of a future star to me. Maybe needs to be slightly less aggressive at times, but certainly has a lot of talent.

I thought Louise thoroughly deserved her win in the first race, although she benefitted from Jody's lack of experience. I doubt he'll be as easy to coerce into out-braking himself next time.

Swanwick's antics were what I'd call 'Playstation manoeuvres'. You know what I mean, trying to edge the other car into the wall, as you do when you play computer games. 3 times I counted him doing that at Woodcote. I was surprised he didn't get black flagged.

And I thought Richardson recovered amazingly well when she got hit during the Fanin incident.

tell you something folks, I am seriously worried about the races at the hill, if the kids dont calm down a bit and try to race cleanly there will be carnage, the hill is a very unforgiving track, drive like a clown and the track will bite you. It is safe but go sideways at duffus onto the grass/gravel and you will dig in and go on your roof, outbrake yourself at mcintyres and you go straight on into the tyres, try going 2 wide at chicane and you will have contact and both of you will be in the tyres.

if any drivers/crew/family read this then please please cool it and stay safe

a lovely lady (jake gidding's mum actually) told me at Knockhill that the clerks gave all the drivers a few strong words before KH practice and that if anyone thought about doing anything like what happened at sillystone they wouldnt drive again this season and basically if you want to drive like a banger racer then shut the gate on the way out

one thing that really surprised me about the jnrs is that they dont have a area at the tracks for all the family to watch from and have a liason officer so that if one of the kids have a incident they get taken care of. basically the parents have to find their own way to the med centre

Jake Hill was fastest from Tom Howard in testing...Louise was fastest in free practice on Saturday....Tom Ingram took both Poles from Seb Morris and the Moores as it was damp...Jake Hill 5th & 8th on the grid, Louise 12th & 16th after an off. Race one - Ingram led but after a Safety Car Jake Hill was up to second, got past, pulled away and Won from Sarah and Dvid Moore - Ingram dropped back with an electrical problem but recovered to 4th. Race two Ingram led away but Jake worked his way from 8th on the grid up to 2nd in two laps, passed him at Redgate and pulled away. A late Safety Car closed it up, but Jake Won from Tom and Seb Morris' first podium. Louise was penalised for contact with Tom Howard and classified 8th. Jake got the Lap Record. Points now it's between Tom and Jake - Tom leads by 42 Points but there are still a max 74 on offer and it's Brands which is Jake's favourite track so ANYTHING can happen!!! Hope that helps! Simon

As soon as safety car pulled in, we knew Hill would go for it, was unfortunately clear what was going to happen. Cold tyres, was too ambitious with the move and it went wrong. But in the end it was all or nothing ... and a lot of time in Motorsport, it comes to nothing.

A great battle though, Ingram is a well deserved winner, so well done to him. Also good on the girls for their performances over the weekend, good to see Sarah back on the podium, has been too long!

Yeah, it was a gutsy move from Jake but maybe a little too gutsy with cold tyres. One for the experience box, I think. I felt sorry for Louise yesterday - Although her angry ranting at Clark was quite amusing to the casual observer - She was obviously a bit upset.

I'm hoping we see a few of these guys that are "too old" in the G50's (or will it be G55?) next year. I know that's what Jody is going for if he can get the funds together... cracking rookie season from him :)

Hello all!

Just wanted to say a big 'THANKS' to everyone who has supported Jake this year. We have struggled like crazy just to get out racing each meeting - it's been down to the team - thanks Mike at Tollbar - and lots of wonderful people who have believed in Jake's ability. Jake Won 10 of 20 races, 8 Poles and 9 Fastest laps...and his 'career' total is 13 Wins, 13 Poles and 14 Fastest Laps...all records in Ginetta Juniors, so it hasn't been bad!

I know from the comments that a few people have thought Jake a little full-on - he's actually quite uncomfortable doing interviews so sometimes comes across akwardly.

Considering how gobby his Dad his you'd think he'd be mega at it wouldn't you!?

Anyway, well done to Tom Ingram and Hillspeed for Winning the Championship - a great job by all concerned - and a massive thanks to all who have helped Jake in every way.

He will be back....!

Thanks to every fan, every Marshal, every official, sponsor and competitor.

See you soon
