Just been looking at field the European Touring Car Cup apart from Jimmy T and Michael Nykjaer there is a real lack of quality and also a lack of cars only 9 this weekend at Salzburgring. Just wondered what everybody else thought and if anybody thinks it will take off?

TBH - No.....
There are more competitive Touring car championships out there, mainly WTCC, BTCC, STCC, DTC. If only 9 cars turn up for a round, then why not enter them in the European WTCC rounds, and have their own little chapmionship while the main WTCC race is going on. It'll bolster grids for sure

Only thing of note to me were the s1600 cars running beside the usual s2000 machines and the disel. So maybe a few s1600 rounds at selected European wtcc tracks to bolster the under card of support races or what about a champions league touring car event top 5 from uk scandanavia and anywhere else with same spec cars doing 3 wtcc rounds in Europe or morocco

Thompson is looking good to retain his ETCC title. He has a 10 point lead now with only 20 points left up for grabs.

Would never happen, date clashes would stop it, plus money would mean most teams wouldnt enter.

Yeah bit with the quality in the field i would expect Jimmy T to win this title at a canter lets hope he's back where he belongs next year

it was better when it was a one event, they expanded it and ruined it, although the field was not high quality over the last couple of years at least there were a fair few cars to watch and battles developed throughout the field, and to have the smaller cars in the field does detract a bit but if they have to make up the grids then needs must

Just read on another known touring car website, Thompson crashed into a rescue vehicle at Ring Djursland today in the etcc trying to avoid 2 other cars. Completely destroyed his honda. Only 3 out of 6 cars finished, its like racing on old gran turismos games. The fia need to scrap the etcc.
Thompson bring the Honda over to the btcc or at least go to the wtcc with it, or bring the Toyota Avensis in early

Sadly the DTC is in massive decline. You only have to go on the official Danish Touring Car Championship website and view videos from 08/07 http://www.dtc-net.dk/?id=18424 to see how popular it once was. But they only have 3 tracks and now only 6-8 regular drivers. Very sad to see :(
However, the series has merged with the much more successful Swedish STCC to form the Scandinavian Cup for 3 rounds this year before the two series become one in 2012.
