I thought I had read that the 'new' spectator banking near the Bombhole and towards Coram was going to be open for last weekends BTCC, anyone know why it wasn't ? I did not inspect it closely but could it be it was not grassed enough or that it's too steep?

Was never going to be open for the BTCC last weekend, there has been a sign up on the fence outside it, saying "opening late 2010"
I agree with you, I expect they are waiting for the grass to be fully grown before they allow the public to use it.
The main idea wasn't for it to be a spectator bank though, Snetterton had to build it, due to complaints about noise, I was told this by Snetterton officials, when present at a Javelin trackday back in March this year.

From the BTCC Website . . .
Snetterton has also improved viewing for spectators with new banking overlooking the spectacular Bombhole-Coram corners which never fail to tempt incident and controversy.

Maybe the banking isn't open to spectators yet because it takes time for the soil to settle to the point where it is safe for spectators to stand on it without starting a landslide! I seem to recall that this was mentioned about the new banking between Woodham Hill and Club at Thruxton.
