one of the fascinating things about this year is that the BMWs are struggling Airwaves have only won twice 1 win each from jackson and kane and WSR who won the title last year with Turks have still yet to win a race this year. why is that is it the spec 1st gear lack of pace the loss of turkington who knows

The longer first gear can't help because they can't get such an advantage at the start anymore plus the other cars have come on a lot esp the Civic, Cruze and  Focus.

It's the smaller teams running the beemers too so less money to get them up to a 10' spec car.

I think its just down to the fact that the front wheel drive cars, especially the Chevys, Fords and Hondas have really taken a step forward in their development and the BMWs haven't moved forward as much.

The change to 1st gear of the BMWs isn't a issue in the races as 1st isn't used except maybe the last corner at croft and of course the start, but that hasn't really hampered Collard as he has made some amazing starts this year.

with due deference to the current drivers turks is in a class apart when it comes to the beemer, just look at what he did in the wtcc after almost a year sitting in his arm chair

Why do you seem so surprised when the BMW have been given a penalty by running a higher 1st gear, while all the other teams have been given special dispensations for 2010.
The Civics and the Cruze have been allowed 'Special Changes'. Even the Intergra's have been allowed additional tweeks. As for the Focus..

Personally, I think that the Airwaves BMW's have done really well considering all the handicaps thrown in their path..

The E90 BMW is at the end of its development, the Cruze's were introduced to the world championship last year and the Focuses are also just about developed. Even the Hondas are newer. Until BMW introduce the next generation 3 series they are going to slip farther back.

That's a very good point, and there's still some doubt as to how many of them are actually running as '10 spec cars...
