So Tom Chilton has won the Independants - and well done to him - but could someone explain to me how???
The overall table shows Tom Onslow-Cole has more points than him, so how does it work out that TOC doesn't win it??????
.....I'm so confuuuuuused!!!!!!!!

Independants scoring is the same as standard scoring except that there are no bonus points (TOC had more poles, lap leads and fastest laps than TC) and it only counts your position compared to other independants. So if, for example, TC came 3rd in a race and was only beaten by the 2 chevys (10 points outright, 15 Independant) he'd get the same number of points as TOC would have done for getting pole, leading the whole way and finishing 1st outright (18 points outright, 15 Independant)... Or if in that example TOC was overtaken by say Andrew Jordan on the last corner TC would have scored better for 3rd place than TOC would for 2nd (15 outright, 10 Independant).

Happened with Turks and Matt Jackson a couple of years ago. Turks was indie champ despite the fact the Jackson finished 2nd in the overall championship IIRC

Although you can't beat the (turked to death) WTCC system where you get a bonus point for every works driver you beat. I think it was brno where turks went from 0 points second in the independants this year, and that was mid season... They dropped that rule pretty quick. :)

Easy - He was gifted it. Chilton shold never have won that title today, and the only reason he did get it was through TOC not being able to finish 3 races.
(or were you talking about points allocation?!)

The only reason Chilton won that title today and not Steven Kane was the stupid team orders at Silverstone, simple. Had TOC been able to take the win at Silverstone, Chilton would have got 3 less independent points, meaning Kane would have rightfully taken the crown. Funny how these things always come round to mean something at the end of the year

I don't think I would be very proud of winning of that cup in that way. I have to say I was willing Rob Collard to overtake Chilton

There are rumours that a hooded character was seen lurking in TOC's garage just before the start of each race with a spanner ;)
I hope Chilton enjoys his Indie win. He hardly earned and it'll be the only Championship he ever gets :D

Yeah i don't think he won it in the best possible way. But points are points!

the funny bit was on the coverage where Chilton said to steve rider that the team has been on a tight budget... yeah right....he needs to ask daddy for some more pocket money then:D:D
really hope that T O-C goes to the aussie V8's gets a paid drive and shows Chilton Snr just how average his son is

Good idea Reidy, better though that TOC get a drive in the BTCC where he is allowed to score points freely and beat TC that way.

I'd love to hear TOC's views on how well his car was prepared for the weekend.

It's a shame there isn't a separate category/prize for the "gentlemen racers" [and I'm using that term as I can't think of a better one] the likes of John George and Martin Johnstone for whom simply being able to race in the same field as the likes of Plato and Neal is the realisation of dreams. Perhaps something akin to the Ginetta chairman's cup is in order?

Don't think he is doing Oz v8's that story turned out to be a bit of a false assumption.
What I'm confuuuuuuuuuuused.com about:D is why did Onslo-Cole's car suffer so many problems all in one day when its run perfectly sound all season. Of all days surelythese were the races when Team Aon would of left no stone unturned prepping the cars. I just don't get it.

But then the results of the following races would most likely have changed also as the drivers would have different success ballast, some drivers may fail to finish etc etc. Who knows, Kane could have failed to finish as all in a subsequent race if TOC had won that race.

How did I know you were going to try and defend it?!
In the end, I think Kane deserved it a hell of a lot more than Chilton and that the team orders were a joke. End of, you cant change that, so dont try.

I have to say this had occured to me also. TOC's car has run like clockwork all year and then breaks down in all 3 races!! And look who comes through to win the independents.
I know you can't rig a result that much (Chilton could have been nerfed or anything) but really.
I have been a Team AON fan since the start, but I'm afraid this has left a bad taste, which all started at Silverstone.
On another note, well done JP Winning it in style

Out of curiosity, I've just been through all the seasons results. How many DNF's did Tom Onslow Cole have before the weekend?
None.
Not one race that he was unable to finish - both driver and car had been 100% reliable all year. Then we get to the finale, and he has two completely unrelated mechanical failures that mean he ends up with 3 DNF's out of 3 races.
Stinks, doesn't it?

I don't think that 'rich old man' is something I'd say to someone like Martin Johnson. I suspect soup would be your future favourite food if you did ......

Nothing like a good old conspiracy theory to end the year, eh? And that was nothing like a good one. S**t happens but there's no need to spread it. There's was a particularly mean one going round the pits in regards to another team at the start of race 3 which doesn't even warrant mentioning. It was total b******s yet emanated from people who would have greater inside knowledge than thee or me.
People are so unbelievably petty when they put 2 and 2 together and come up with .... paranoia.

If Martin were to take me as literally as that, it's a distinct possibility ;)
To elaborate on the point... my impression is that older drivers (say 40+) - particularly in events that require a higher level of funding such as BTCC or Carrera Cup - are more likely to be self-funded guys who have been successful in life... "living the dream", as it were. Thus, I don't think a Chairman's cup or similar is really needed for a privilege most of us can only dream of.
Anyway, that's going a bit off topic. Ed will be along in a minute to tell us off :D

The Chilton money really grates on you doesn't it. Can't see your problem really, Tom's dad is a successful business man who provides money so his son's can race, so what, how do you think the lads and lasses get the money to race in the Junior Ginettas. That Chilton money also pays alot of peoples wages and would TOC have been raise sufficient funds to be able to race last year or this year without some funding from the Chilton money.
If I had that sort of money or even a tenth of it I'd be paying for my two sons to race too, but for now they'll have to settle on me funding their road cars instead.
