So the new Porsches will be used this year and all of the 32 cars have been sold so we could get a full grid. Some drivers have been confirmed already. They are also doing a world porsche race at the Nurburgring which will mean they are not racing at Croft this year.

Benji Hertherington the scholarship winner has signed for Red Line Racing.

Jess Gwynne is going to sign for 2XP Racing. She raced in the Legends Championship last season.

Jonas Gelzinis is going to be driving for Juta Racing again.

Sam Tordoff has signed for Team Parker Racing.

23rd Jan 2011, 12:44 AM
Tautvydas Barstys will also be remaining at Juta.

Porsche drivers have also got an amazing chance to take part in a race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with over 200 Porsche's expected to line up in the Porsche Carrera World Cup

Great opportunity for them, but I am going to miss seeing them at Croft. I always love seeing the Carreras, pure racing.

thinking the same thing Dick, PCCGB is expanding at one heck of a rate with a capacity grid wheras Brit Gt seems to be in freefall ATM with poor grids and not a lot of actual racing, dont know the difference in budget but reckon Brit GT would be more, okay you get more track time but there is the costs of travelling to the continent

I am just glad that PCCGB are coming to knockhill as it proves that big GT cars can race on the track and enjoy themselves, any drivers and crew I spoke to last year loved the place

bit harsh as people have just spent alot of money new merc SLS and couple of 458s plus the new lotus works team vs ginetta in GT4 im sure ill eat my words but might provide a good bit of racing if it all comes off!

Formula Palmer Audi 2009 champion Richard Plant is going to be driving for Team Parker Racing this year. So another single seater driver going into the Porsche Carrera Cup. I suppose due to the limited drives in F1 it could be a better idea for a career in GT racing.

Rory butcher is in with Tommy Dreelan at Celtic speed, reckon rory must be in with a good shout at pro am 1, considering he beat most of the guys last year in a pro-am 2 car at knockie

think George Brewster is involved again with Celtic Speed (according to their website). really hoping the likes of Plant, Tordoff and Hetherington can mix it with the big 3 of Harvey, Caine and Sutton this year. last year was pretty dull at the front either Harvey or Caine, although Jelley came on good in the latter part of the season.

Couple of podiums definitely possible for Rory Butcher this year

i know Tommy ordered 3 of the new cars, so Tommy, Rory and George would be a good team. Would love to see Derek Pierce back in PCCGB too, nothink like the famous tartan army takeover. think 2 years ago we had 5 or 6 smrc men in the series and for a wee club that is good going

Triple Eight seem to be turning into hot air merchants.

The Aston Martin GT4 they announced last year never got built, the Caparo T-1000 never started (although partly Caparo's fault for that), they struggled to get enough sponsors to complete a full BTCC season last year, now a failed attempt to run both Porsches and Ginettas.

Seems they spent so many years being dependent on the Vauxhall works contract that a network of other sponsors or even experience on how to attract new sponsors. It's sad how the mighty have fallen.

Best wishes to Rory Butcher who will be racing with the Celtic Speed team. He did extremely well as a guest driver in the 2010 Knockhill meeting which bodes well for him in 2011.

That apart as well being highly talented and dedicated he's an exceptionally pleasant and affable young man.

I feel that Porsche have shot themselves in the foot with the new weight limits. Any driver who is above average weight is hugely handicapped. Some of the best drivers now have no chance of being on the podium.

I wouldnt put it just down to the weight limits mind ... a lot of the drivers seem to have gelled better the new car better too.

As Tim put it, anyone of around 6-10 drivers can now win a race outright which is obviously great for the series.

simon1220
30th May 2011, 03:33 PM
Tim Harvey has left the PCCGB, feeling he can't be competitive in the current series/regulations. He has passed his seat on to youngster Kieran Vernon, who won the Porsche Scholarship with Benji Hetherington but couldn't raise the budget to do the season and is also competing in the Formula Renault BARC series.

That will make it very difficult for him to honour his ITV commentary duties .....

And it's not good, he's a superb driver and a model pro, who has been, in my eyes, put at a slight disadvantage with the new weight rules, allowing the younger, slimmer drivers to break away.

Definatly ashame to see Harvey drop out, was the guy i always supported in that series.

But it's understandable really, very frustrating when you know your not as competitive as you could be.

sad to see Tim go, reckon porsche should have given him a weight break as he has been a stalwart of the series since 2004 and possibly before. he put his money where his mouth was when there was barely a dozen cars racing.

They can't show favouritism to individual drivers though, despite what they may have done for the series. Caine is also struggling this year, would he get a weight break too?

ljbmotors

Please say he will come back, possibly later in the year.

It would be such a shame to lose one of the series best drivers.

Lets weight(hehe) and see after Croft.

I don't think he wanted a weight break.
The 'ready to race' 2011 cars are 20kg heavier than last year but the new regulations minimum weight for car and driver has been reduced this year by 10kg. The heavier drivers (together with their 'ready to race' cars) are well above the minimum and so are effectively carrying ballast. (All cars AFAIK carried some ballast in previous years to reach the minimum weight)
Anyway, I am sure Tim will accept the new regulations with good grace and continue to support the Porsche Carrera Cup series which he loves. I thought it was a lovely gesture to give Kieran Vernon the drive and I hope he does very well.
