Jones, Eaves for carbon-free team
Adam Jones and Dan Eaves will race bio-ethanol-powered SEAT Leons for new team Cartridge World Carbon Zero Racing in this year’s HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship, according to the squad.
Solihull-based Jones has considerable experience of the Leon, having achieved outright podium finishes in one in last year’s BTCC for the team Air Cool outfit, as well as challenging for the Independent Drivers’ title.
For Eaves, 2009 will mark his return to the BTCC since he last raced in it in 2005. At Thruxton that year, driving for title-winning team Team Halfords, he made history by becoming the only driver to date to win all three BTCC races in a day.
The Leons will be run by Colin Neill’s CVR company, although entered under the Cartridge World Carbon Zero banner to reflect the team’s standing as a carbon-free race operation.
In a CVR statement, Solihull-based Jones said: "It’s great to be driving for the team this coming season. They have been working flat out to get on the grid and I’m sure we will be very competitive and hit the ground running. I’m looking forward to having a team-mate for the first time in the BTCC and I’m sure we will push each other throughout the season and surprise a few people along the way.”
Gloucestershire-based Eaves, 33, added: “It’s good to have Adam as a team-mate. His experience of the car is going to be very useful to me and the team. I’m sure with the two of us on the grid we will get some good results.”
CVR team boss Neill commented: "I am delighted that Adam has come on board and joined Cartridge World Carbon Zero Racing. Adam had a fantastic season last year and will be a real asset to the team. Adam and Dan are totally focused on the season ahead. Both drivers have set themselves some realistic goals in their first season together and where they want to be. The team are also totally focused on the first round at Brands Hatch in April and currently preparing the cars for our first test day.”
