Austin to race at Donington

Rob Austin has announced he will race his team’s new Audi A4 in the second round of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Donington Park (16-17 April).

The highly experienced Evesham-based driver has entered the BTCC for the first time in 2011 as team manager of his own Rob Austin Racing outfit with a pair of Audi A4s built to series organiser TOCA’s latest Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) technical regulations.

David Pinkney gave the first of the two A4s a brief debut during the season opener at Brands Hatch and the team is now hoping for a more successful outing in the Midlands. This time, though, Austin will step into the Audi hot seat as Pinkney has business commitments that weekend.

Austin said: “We have a couple of days available for testing in the days leading up to the race weekend, so we’ll aim to get some miles on the car before we go out in anger. We’re looking forward to seeing how the car compares against the rest of the field.

“We believe the Audi has fantastic promise but, due to time constraints, we might not be able to show its full potential.”

Austin, however, noted that there will be one major difference to the Audi’s appearance at Donington. “Pink isn’t really my colour, so my car will be red!” he added, referring to Pinkney’s preferred pink livery as seen on the A4 at Brands Hatch.
