2000 Manufacturer Championship

Ford has been in the BTCC since pretty much the BTCC’s earliest days and down the years has been responsible for producing some of the championship’s most evocative cars including possibly the most raved about ever, the sensationally powerful Sierra RS500. However, that was before the BTCC’s 2-litre era which it took part in with great success from 1993-2000. Each year was contested with the manufacturer’s Mondeo model. Andy Rouse developed and drove the car in its early years, although it was New Zealand team-mate Paul Radisich who was usually the quicker of the two, taking a series of wins. A barren patch followed from 1996-99, but in 2000 the Mondeo was the class of the field and all three Ford drivers that year, Alain Menu, Anthony Reid and Rickard Rydell, went into the season finale fighting it out for the title. Menu won and Ford left the BTCC on a high, having achieved a dizzying 219 race wins – more than twice as many as nearest rival Vauxhall.
