Jordan jumps to the top of the timesheets

BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan leapt to the top of the timesheets in yet another wet/dry Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship practice session at Brands Hatch, before a late red flag halted any further improvements up and down the order.

The session started in damp conditions but gradually dried as the 40 minutes of running elapsed, and it was the AmD-run Honda of Rory Butcher to first set a representative time at the head of the field.

Jordan was soon setting purple sector times around the legendary Grand Prix circuit and his 3 Series immediately jumped up to P1, and the title contender went even quicker on his next tour to set a 1:35.788s lap time.

“It feels different than any other race weekend,” said Jordan. “I’m the one following so my approach doesn’t change from any other race weekend. You can feel the tension, it feels different but this is what we do it for. I want to try and enjoy that and embrace it this weekend.”

Jake Hill’s Audi S3 slipped into second just as the red flag was thrown in the final ten minutes, following an off for the Excelr8 Motorsport MG of Sam Osborne.

Whilst the session restarted there was little time for drivers and teams to get their Dunlop tyres back up to temperature, so the leaderboard remained largely unchanged.

Adrian Flux Subaru Racing’s Ash Sutton and Mac Tools with Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan were third and fourth respectively when the chequered flag fell, whilst Butcher had to settle for fifth at the finish.

Team Parker Racing’s Stephen Jelley backed up his FP1 performance with another top six result in the second session, with BTC Racing’s Chris Smiley and Championship leader Colin Turkington next in the order.

Michael Caine was ninth in the Motorbase Performance-run Ford ahead of title contender Josh Cook in his Honda Civic Type R Fk8.

Qualifying for Round 28 of the 2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship commences at 15:05, and will streamed live via www.itv.com/btcc.
