OLIPHANT READY FOR RACING RETURN

Tom Oliphant is ready to battle for race wins with Team BMW when the 2020 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship finally kicks into action at Donington Park next weekend (01/02 August).

The 29-year-old racer worked hard from his home in Leamington Spa to ensure he’d be at his physical and mental best once the action resumed, and he’s since enjoyed track action at the Snetterton Goodyear tyre test and more recently at Silverstone yesterday alongside team-mate Colin Turkington.

Oliphant completed a detailed programme with West Surrey Racing, as well as gaining some crucial running in both wet and dry conditions ahead of the new season.

He then moved on to the home of British motorsport at Silverstone, where the squad circled the famous Grand Prix circuit.

“A great day’s running around Silverstone, a fully dry day with so much progress made,” Oliphant posted on Twitter. “Bring on the first round, we are coming for pole!”

Now the British Racing Drivers’ Club member returns to Donington Park, where he has fond memories having taken his maiden BTCC podium finish in only his fourth race with Team BMW.

“I couldn’t be more excited to get back racing again,” said Oliphant. “It’s been a long wait due to COVID-19 and I know it’s been a stressful time in lockdown for a lot of the BTCC community, so I can’t wait to get out there alongside the rest of the grid and put on a show for all the fans again.

“With track time set to be limited before the season begins, the Snetterton test was really important for me to dust off the cobwebs, get behind the wheel again and work with the team on some crucial set-up and tyre work so we can hit the ground running at Donington Park.

“Donington is one of my favourite circuits in the country and the BMW was fantastic there last season, so I want to be challenging for silverware from the opening race of the season. With a year under my belt with Team BMW, I’m ready to fight for the top prizes!”

The 2020 BTCC season will be contested over nine events. Starting with four meetings in August at Donington Park, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Knockhill, the series then moves on to Thruxton, Silverstone, Croft and Snetterton before the November season finale at Brands Hatch.
