Circuit Biography

The return to the Donington Park GP circuit produced the most significant headline when the schedule was announced for the 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship.

Whilst the venue is famed for many reasons – including the notorious Ayrton Senna performance in the 1993 European Grand Prix – it has also produced some unforgettable BTCC memories.

The last BTCC race took place on the layout back in 2002, when the race winners were James Thompson in a Vauxhall Astra Coupe and Alan Morrison in a Honda Civic Type R, but the venue hosted many iconic moments beforehand.

“We haven’t been there [on the Donington GP circuit] for a long time, but everyone remembers Gabriele Tarquini up on two wheels at the chicane in 1994!” said BTCC Chief Executive Alan Gow.

“It adds something different to the calendar, and it’s got a nice balance to it.”
