GEORGE GAMBLE JOINS CAR GODS WITH CICELEY MOTORSPORT FOR DEBUT BTCC CAMPAIGN

Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport’s 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship charge kicked into gear today (28 February) with the Accrington-based squad recruiting George Gamble to pilot its second BMW 3 Series for his debut campaign in Britain’s premier motorsport series.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed racing within a number of the BTCC’s support series as far back as 2011, when he competed in the Ginetta Junior Championship, culminating with third overall and winning the Winter Series title outright in the same season.

Further success followed, securing the Ginetta GT5 Challenge title, before a spell in the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup saw him achieve third in the overall championship. More recently, Gamble has enjoyed success in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, winning the Rookie crown in 2018 and finishing third in the Pro Class the following year.

Joining multiple race-winner Adam Morgan, Gamble is hoping to draw on his team-mate’s experience and is mindful of the competitive step up involved in joining the BTCC grid.

“I am delighted to be joining Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport this season,” said Gamble. “Having raced on the support race package for a long time now I have always aspired to be in the main race, but equally felt it was important to be with the right team and in the right car.

“I am under no illusions – the racing will be a step up from what I am used to. The level in the championship is so high and the racing so close, but I feel with the experience of the team and a quick driver in Adam as my teammate, I can have a solid first season and a good run at the Jack Sears Trophy.”

“It’s fantastic to have George join the team for this year,” added team-mate, Morgan. “His pedigree in rear-wheel drive machinery on the TOCA package is second to none, and after our first couple of meetings together he has fit straight into the team dynamic. With a learning year under our belts last season with the BMWs, we are in a brilliant position to have a proper run at the title in 2022.”

“George’s experience and winning pedigree is clear to see, and I am sure once he has acclimatised to the championship he will be running at the sharp end,” concluded Team Owner Russell Morgan. “Remaining with Car Gods as title sponsor is also excellent for continuity within the team as we approach the challenges faced by the changes involved with the switch to Hybrid Technology, which will certainly add an interesting element to the racing.”

An extensive pre-season testing programme for both drivers will precede Donington Park’s season opener (23/24 April) as the 65th BTCC campaign gets underway.
